Overview

What are AI Insights?

AI Insights is a natural language interface. Instead of clicking through dashboards and filters, you ask questions in plain English: “How much did I spend on dining last month?” or “What's my average monthly savings rate?” The AI translates your question into a SQL query, runs it against your database, and returns a human-readable answer with charts and tables.

Step by Step

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Access the Chat Interface

Navigate to Intelligence → Insights. You'll see a chat window with suggested starter questions.

2. Ask Your First Question

Type a question in natural language or click a suggested question.

  • “How much did I spend on groceries in January?”
  • “What's my net worth growth over the past 6 months?”
  • “Show me my top 5 spending categories this year”
  • “What percentage of my income goes to housing?”

3. Review the Answer

The AI will return a structured response with:

  • Text Summary: Human-readable answer (e.g., “You spent $847 on groceries in January”)
  • Data Table: If the query returns multiple rows, you'll see a formatted table
  • Charts: For time-series or category breakdowns, the AI may render a bar chart or line chart
  • Asset-aware rendering: if the answer references a specific account or category, it will format with icons and colors from your dashboard

4. Follow-Up Questions

The chat maintains context, so you can ask follow-ups without repeating yourself.

  • Initial: “How much did I spend on dining last month?”
  • Follow-up: “How does that compare to the month before?”
  • Follow-up: “Show me a breakdown by merchant”
  • Thread history is saved—you can return to previous conversations

5. Monitor Usage

Pro plan includes a monthly query cap. Check usage at the bottom of the chat window.

  • Queries remaining this month: X / Y
  • Resets on the 1st of each month
  • If you hit the cap, the chat will notify you and suggest waiting until next month or upgrading

Pro Tips

Pro Tips

  • Be specific with time ranges: “Last month” is ambiguous (calendar month? past 30 days?). Use “in January 2026” or “from Jan 1 to Jan 31” for precision.
  • Use category names from your budget: The AI knows your custom categories. Ask about “Groceries” or “Dining Out” using the exact names from your Blueprint.
  • Combine metrics: “What's my savings rate and how does it compare to my liquidity score?” The AI can pull from multiple tables and correlate data points.
