Holdings Walkthrough

Tracking Your Net Worth

Connect all your accounts and assets to see your complete financial picture. Understand what you own, not just what you spend.

Overview

What is Holdings?

The Holdings section tracks everything you own: bank accounts (checking, savings, credit cards), brokerage accounts (stocks, bonds, ETFs), and real assets (real estate, vehicles, collectibles). Rikdom syncs balances via Plaid and SnapTrade, and calculates a tier-weighted liquidity score to show what percentage of your net worth is actually accessible.

Step by Step

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Connect Bank Accounts

Navigate to Holdings → Accounts and click “Add Bank.”

  • Search for your bank or credit union
  • Log in through your bank's secure OAuth flow (credentials never touch Rikdom)
  • Select which accounts to sync (checking, savings, credit cards)
  • Accounts will appear grouped by type (Checking, Savings, Credit Cards, etc.)

Heads up: After connecting, your bank may send a security email about a “new device login” or “Face ID setup.” This is normal. Our bank data provider connects through your bank's official mobile API, which the bank interprets as a new device. Your login credentials are never shared with or stored by Rikdom.

2. Connect Brokerage Accounts (Pro)

Still on the Accounts page, click “Connect Brokerage” to link investment accounts.

  • SnapTrade supports 200+ brokerages (Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, etc.)
  • Read-only OAuth access pulls positions, balances, and cost basis
  • Holdings sync every 24 hours automatically
  • Connection health LED shows sync status (green = healthy, amber = stale, red = error)

3. Add Real Assets

Navigate to Holdings → Real Assets and click “Add Asset.”

  • Choose asset type: Property, Vehicle, Jewelry, Collectibles, Art, or Other
  • For properties, enter an address to enable RentCast auto-valuation (refreshes every 30 days)
  • For vehicles, enter make/model/year (MarketCheck API coming soon for VIN-based pricing)
  • Manually override estimated value anytime—your input takes precedence
  • Confidence rings (solid/dashed/dotted border) show valuation freshness

4. Understand Liquidity Score

On the Holdings landing page, you'll see a dual-metric widget: Net Worth + Liquidity Score.

  • Immediate (100%): Checking, savings—cash you can access today
  • Near-Liquid (95%/90%): Brokerage taxable accounts, short-term bonds
  • Restricted (0%): 401(k), IRA, pension—locked until retirement
  • Illiquid (0%): Real estate, vehicles—takes weeks/months to sell
  • The copper progress bar shows % of net worth that's liquid
  • Runway months calculates how long immediate + near-liquid assets last at current spending

Pro Tips

Pro Tips

  • Use the Net Worth toggle: Exclude accounts from Monte Carlo simulations (e.g., exclude your primary home if you're not planning to sell it for retirement funding).
  • Create portfolio groups: Organize accounts into custom hierarchies (e.g., “Retirement,” “Emergency Fund,” “House Down Payment”) for better mental accounting.
  • Balance history sparklines: Hover over the sparkline next to each account to see a 90-day trend. Copper = gains, red = losses.
